A-Z: Not Yet Out of "Like" with FaceBook

I admit it. If I never heard the words Farmville, Bejeweled Blitz, or Mafia Wars again, I would be perfectly fine with that.  There are some of my friends and family who never met a new FaceBook game they didn't want to try. (Bless them.)

Luckily, I know how to block that shit hide those options, and I always choose Hide All.

Putting aside annoying games and TMI about the details of baby bowel movements, not to mention the aggravation of learning the new Timeline format (aaargh!), I admit FaceBook is still one of:
My 26 Favorite Ways to Piss Away Time Do Valuable Research on the Interwebs.

FaceBook helps me keep up with family.  My nephew who is away at college as a freshman, has been willing to Friend me and he posts frequent updates on his FB page about things he likes, ideas he's interested in. My sister, who recently moved out the area, is taking dawn walks along the lake that's near her new home, and is posting amazing sunrise pictures several times a week.

I actually took these two pictures, on a recent visit.  Not that hers aren't great.
(Please don't borrow without giving me credit, thanks.)

So I can ooh and aah over my sister's pictures. I can "like" that a friend is now "In A Relationship." I can chime in with advice on that baby diarrhea issue (clear liquids) and I can join GROUPS, like GBE#2, SoCal Lady Bloggers, and Writer Unboxed, and follow issues currently dear to my heart.

FMI: FaceBook , or, if you're not on FB: Unite Against the War on Women

You may have other groups you want to join, events you want to RSVP to, or fan pages you want to Follow.  (Like mine, hint hint!)  I attended a very cool book signing in Santa Monica last year for The Oatmeal that was run entirely though FaceBook notices.

from The Oatmeal's How To Suck At FaceBook
On FaceBook Fan Pages:
  • I think you should have one, if you write or have a business. I wrote a whole blog post about why they are cool.
  • I think you should fan mine, because I am awesome. (And/or desperate. See Chad, above.)
  • I think you should use Networked Blogs in conjunction with your Fan Page to Follow other Fan Pages and thus add content to your page, almost effortlessly.  Which I also did a whole how-to on, right before Networked Blogs unveiled a new look.  *weeping*
  • I think you should do whatever suits you, and never mind my opinion.
However, if you choose to jump in with both feet on FaceBook - it's not as hard as it looks.  Seriously, I manage to do my fan page and a regular page without working up much of a sweat.  (Actually, I am currently doing 3 fans pages - but am hoping to offload one of them to another sucker volunteer, soon.) Still, you may have other things you want to do with your time. Which is totally your right.

Just be aware, for all that Twitter has its fans, and Pinterest is exploding, and nobody knows yet what the next big thing will be, FaceBook is still the big social networking site.  And FB still offers social media options that are broader than anyone else's, at this time.

My A-Z theme is My 26 Favorite Ways to Piss Away Time Do Valuable Research on the Interwebs.

Truly, sometimes an idea from a "pointless" fun site or post or photograph does result in pages and pages of writing. Or at least a blog post or two.

Are you on FaceBook?
Got a personal & a fan page, or only one of them?
Got other fun sites beginning with the letter "F"?
